This one was a slow burn for me. Repeat listens are essential I think to really appreciate it. That said, if someone asked me to introduce or describe black metal to them, I’d give them this album. They’ll either run screaming or be a fan of the genre for life. Brian3737
Like the land from which this band hails, Heljarkviða is a reflection of its harsh landscape: hauntingly stark and cold, fused with a conflagration of blackened metal savagery.
A phenomenal release steeped in Icelandic history.
The quiet, subdued moments on this album really punctuate and draw contrast to the truly massive, heavier portions. There is so much dynamic movement here that it takes my breathe away at each turn. The Haunting Green have created a stunning, chilling, and stirring atmosphere that is as compelling as it is devastating. jurneyman
